Dubai residents report tremors after 2 earthquakes hit Iran

On Tuesday morning, Dubai residents reported feeling tremors caused by two earthquakes that struck southern Iran within an hour of each other. The first earthquake had a magnitude of 5.5 and occurred at 8:35 AM local time, followed by a more powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 at 9:10 AM. While these earthquakes were centered in Iran, their effects were felt in parts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), including Dubai.

The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology confirmed that the tremors were slightly felt by residents in the UAE but did not cause any significant damage or other effects in the country. The UAE occasionally experiences the after-effects of earthquakes in Iran due to the proximity of both regions. Dubai, like the rest of the UAE, is not located near major tectonic plate boundaries, but tremors from larger earthquakes in neighboring regions can sometimes be felt in the country.

In previous instances, the UAE has experienced mild tremors or felt the effects of more substantial earthquakes in Iran. Despite the sensations of tremors, these events have generally not resulted in significant damage or casualties in the UAE.
