Dubai Approves Dh18 Billion Blue Line for Metro Expansion

Dubai has given the green light to a significant expansion of its metro network with the approval of the Blue Line on Friday, November 24. This new line, spanning 30km and featuring 14 stations, comes at an estimated cost of Dh18 billion. One of its key highlights is its connection to vital areas in the city and the Dubai International Airport.

The anticipated impact of the Blue Line extends beyond improved connectivity. Authorities expect a notable 20% reduction in traffic congestion upon its completion. Furthermore, properties situated in proximity to the metro stations are predicted to experience a substantial increase in value, up to 25%.

When will the Blue Line be completed?

The Blue Line is anticipated to be completed in 2029, aligning with the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro. This significant addition to the metro network is expected to enhance transportation connectivity and contribute to the overall development of Dubai’s infrastructure.

The Blue Line will provide a direct connection between Dubai International Airport and nine key areas:

  1. Mirdif
  2. Al Warqa
  3. International City 1
  4. International City 2
  5. Dubai Silicon Oasis
  6. Academic City
  7. Ras Al Khor Industrial Area
  8. Dubai Creek Harbour
  9. Dubai Festival City

The route will consist of 14 stations, including nine elevated stations and five underground stations. Trains on the Blue Line will traverse Dubai Creek through a 1,300-meter viaduct. Upon completion, the total number of Metro and tram stations in Dubai will increase from 64 to 78.
