Dubai taxi fares increased in May following a four-month surge in petrol prices.

In May, Dubai taxi fares increased by 12 fils per kilometer, following four consecutive months of rising petrol prices. This increase reflects changes in fuel usage per kilometer, while the flag-down rate and other public transport fares remain unchanged. For instance, the fare for a 25-km journey from Al Barsha to Dubai World Trade Centre has risen by about Dh3. The last significant fare increase occurred in July 2022, when global oil prices exceeded $100 a barrel. Presently, global oil prices range between $83 and $87 per barrel. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has stated that fare adjustments are dynamic and are based on fluctuating fuel prices in the local market. In January 2023, taxi fares were reduced by 22 fils per kilometer, from Dh2.19 to Dh1.97. In contrast, the Ajman Transport Authority raised taxi fares to Dh1.83 per kilometer in March. While Sharjah has not increased taxi fares, some bus routes have experienced fare hikes due to rising oil prices.
