UAE: Travel time cut by 20%, traffic to improve a week before school reopens

RTA Completes Traffic Improvements at Al Safa 1 Schools Complex

A week before schools reopen on August 26, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the completion of significant traffic enhancements at four key locations within the Al Safa 1 Schools Complex. These improvements aim to boost traffic flow and reduce travel time by 20%.

Key Enhancements to Traffic Flow

RTA implemented several upgrades to improve the overall traffic experience for students, parents, and residents:

  • Service Road Expansion: RTA added a new 255-meter lane to the service road for vehicles traveling from the junction of Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Hadiqa Road towards the roundabout leading to Street 13. This enhancement will streamline access to the Al Safa 1 Schools Complex.
  • New Parking Slots: RTA created 22 parallel parking slots near Al Safa School and Al Ittihad School. This addition aims to alleviate congestion during peak hours, especially during student drop-off and pick-up times.
  • Widened Exit to Al Wasl Street: RTA widened the exit leading to Al Wasl Street from Street 19 by adding a 330-meter lane. The adjustment reduces left-turn lanes to one, improving traffic distribution. Additionally, RTA added 18 new parking slots opposite Jumeirah College.
  • U-Turn Exit and Safety Features: RTA installed an additional U-turn exit on Al Wasl Street, complete with a traffic signal and pedestrian crossing. These measures enhance safety for both motorists and pedestrians.
Commitment to Road Safety

Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at the Traffic and Roads Agency, emphasized that these improvements benefit not only students but also the local business community and approximately 60,000 residents in the area. RTA remains dedicated to enhancing the efficiency of Dubai’s road network, aligning with the city’s development goals and ensuring smooth traffic flow and elevated safety standards across Dubai’s roads. These enhancements mark a significant step forward in improving traffic conditions in the Al Safa 1 area, making it safer and more accessible for everyone.
