Mild Earthquake Strikes UAE

On September 1, 2024, a 2.3 magnitude earthquake struck Masafi at 7:53 AM UAE time, as reported by the National Centre of Meteorology’s National Seismic Network. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 1.6 kilometers, causing residents to feel mild tremors.

Impact and Reassurance

Despite residents experiencing the tremors, the NCM confirmed that the earthquake had “no effect in the UAE.” This reassurance comes in light of previous seismic activity in the region, including a 3.0 magnitude earthquake near Dibba on August 18 and a 2.8 magnitude quake in Masafi on June 8.

Recent Seismic Activity

The UAE has recorded several minor earthquakes in recent months. On May 29, a 3.1 magnitude quake struck near Ras Al Khaimah, followed by another minor quake of 2.8 magnitude. Seismology experts continue to assure residents that the region poses no significant earthquake threat, emphasizing the rarity of serious seismic events.
