RTA and Dubai Police Launch Joint Patrol Units

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police General Headquarters have introduced Joint Patrol Units to oversee heavy vehicle compliance and technical standards in Dubai.

Enhanced Road Safety Measures

The new patrol units will monitor six major roads: Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, Al Khail Road, Ras Al Khor Road, Al Maktoum Airport Road, and Dubai-Al Ain Road. This initiative aims to strengthen inspection campaigns and extend their reach.

Strategic Traffic Safety Goals

Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police, highlighted that these patrols are part of the 5-Year Executive Plan for the Traffic Safety Strategy. This strategy targets traffic monitoring and enforcement, road and vehicle engineering, traffic awareness, and system development.

Driver Compliance and Safety

Major General Al Ghaithi urged heavy vehicle drivers to adhere to traffic laws, obey speed limits, maintain safe distances, conduct regular inspections, take breaks on long journeys, avoid distractions, and ensure tyre safety.

Partnership Success and Achievements

The partnership between Dubai Police and RTA has significantly reduced traffic fatalities and advanced Dubai’s traffic safety strategy. With 73,861 registered heavy vehicles, RTA is committed to modernizing fleets, supporting SMEs, and integrating zero-emission technologies.

New Truck Rest Stops

RTA has completed 10 out of 16 planned truck rest stops in collaboration with ADNOC. These rest areas, located along major roads, feature facilities such as prayer rooms, diesel refuelling stations, and rest areas to support driver well-being.
