Authorities in Abu Dhabi have imposed fines totaling Dh165,000 on individuals who trespassed in a protected nature reserve and harmed critical animal habitats. The Environment Agency — Abu Dhabi (EAD) reported the violations occurred in the Al Wathba area, where offenders entered without the necessary permits.

Importance of Al Wathba Nature Reserve

Al Wathba is a significant ecological area, home to many of the emirate’s natural treasures. The Al Wathba Wetland Reserve, part of this expansive land, attracts thousands of flamingoes each autumn and spring, alongside various resident species. Additionally, fossil dunes dating back approximately 120,000 years have been discovered within this protected region.

A Call for Environmental Responsibility

The EAD emphasized that preserving biodiversity and the natural heritage of the emirate is a shared responsibility. They urged the public to adhere to environmental laws and contribute to safeguarding natural resources for future generations. “Together, we can work towards a better environment,” they stated.

Access Regulations

While some areas of Al Wathba are open to the public, access remains limited due to its status as a nature reserve. Authorities remind everyone to respect these regulations to protect vital ecosystems.
