Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Careem, the region’s multi-service app, proudly announced a milestone of 7.35 million bike trips since the launch of Careem Bike in 2020. This initiative has significantly contributed to sustainable transportation in the emirate, with riders collectively removing 1,208 cars off the road.
Trip Statistics and User Demographics
In 2023 alone, users completed over 2.3 million trips, reflecting a remarkable 66.3% increase from 2022. Residents accounted for 68% of these trips, while tourists made up 32%. The data highlights the growing popularity of cycling for first- and last-mile connectivity, which constituted 76% of total trips.
Environmental Impact
Careem Bike has emerged as the largest pedal-assist bike-sharing network in the region, with 197 stations offering around 1,800 bikes across Dubai’s extensive cycling tracks. Since its inception, riders have covered a total distance of 28.4 million km, saving over 4.32 million kg of CO2 emissions, equivalent to the emissions produced by 1,208 cars.

Future Plans
Launched in 2020 with a focus on supporting Dubai’s sustainability agenda and promoting an active lifestyle, Careem Bike has also expanded to Abu Dhabi and Madinah in Saudi Arabia, with plans for further regional growth. The initiative underscores Dubai’s commitment to creating a greener urban environment while encouraging residents and visitors to embrace cycling as a viable mode of transport.
