How to Apply for Your Freelance Permit

To begin the application process for the freelance permit, follow these steps:

Step 1: Register Your Interest

Contact the ECDA by emailing the Client Relations Centre at CRC@expocitydubai.ae or visit them at level two of the Women’s Pavilion in the Sustainability District.

  • Obtain the Application Form: Visit the ECD website and navigate to the ‘Individuals’ category. Click on ‘Freelancer Permit Application Form’ to download and fill out the form.

Step 2: Submit Your Application

After receiving your ECDA Portal credentials, log in and submit your completed application form along with the required documents. The total fee is Dh7,000, which includes a non-refundable Dh500 application fee.

Required Documents:

  • Completed freelancer permit application form
  • Valid passport copy (at least six months)
  • Emirates ID (if available)
  • Work portfolio or qualification certificates
  • Recent passport-sized photo with a white background
  • For sponsored individuals: No Objection Certificate (NOC) and sponsor details

Step 3: Review and Approval

The ECDA will review your application to ensure all requirements are met. You may need to provide additional documentation if requested. Upon approval, you will receive:

  • The ECD freelance permit
  • An ECD identification card
  • An invoice for payment of the company card (if applicable) and UAE residence visa

Optional Company Card

If you wish to obtain a UAE residence visa, an ECD company card will be issued. This card includes a serial number, individual name, expiry date, and a quota of one visa for the freelancer. Note that UAE citizens or self-sponsored individuals do not require a residence visa.

The entire process takes just three working days. If you need a UAE residence visa, it may take up to five working days.
