Car Sold, Payment Withheld

A car showroom in Al Ain sparked legal trouble after it sold a customer’s vehicle but refused to pay him the agreed amount. The Al Ain Court for Civil, Commercial, and Administrative Claims ordered the business to return Dh68,000 to the car owner and pay an additional Dh15,000 in compensation for financial and emotional damages.

Agreement Turns Sour

The customer had entrusted his vehicle to the showroom under a mutual agreement to sell the car at the best available price. The showroom located a buyer and informed the customer that the vehicle sold for Dh68,000—an offer he approved.

Ownership Transferred for Financing

To complete the transaction, the showroom told the customer that the buyer required bank financing, which meant transferring ownership of the vehicle. The customer cooperated and used his UAE digital ID to transfer the title.

Showroom Fails to Transfer Funds

Although the showroom completed the sale and received payment from the buyer, it failed to transfer the funds to the original car owner. After repeated delays and no resolution, the customer filed a lawsuit seeking the Dh68,000 sale amount, 9% annual interest, Dh30,000 in damages, and legal costs.

Court Rules in Favor of Car Owner

After reviewing the documents and communications, the court found that the showroom breached its obligations. It ordered the business to pay Dh68,000, plus Dh15,000 in compensation for the distress caused.
