Dubai is moving closer to unlocking faster access to its expanding waterfront as work on a new Dubai Harbour bridge reaches 65% completion.
The new bridge will create a direct road link from Sheikh Zayed Road to Dubai Harbour. Once opened, it will reduce travel time from 12 minutes to only three, significantly improving daily access to the area.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is delivering the project in partnership with Shamal Holding as part of Dubai’s wider coastal development strategy.
Direct Link from Sheikh Zayed Road
The project centres on a 1,500-metre bridge designed to handle growing traffic demand from residential, tourism and marine developments.
The bridge starts at Interchange 5 on Sheikh Zayed Road, near the American University in Dubai. It then passes through the Al Naseem Street and Al Falak Street junction, crosses King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street, and connects directly to Dubai Harbour Street.
This direct route will eliminate long detours and ease pressure on surrounding roads.
Traffic Capacity and Road Improvements
The bridge will feature two lanes in each direction and support up to 6,000 vehicles per hour.
Alongside the elevated structure, the project includes major surface-level upgrades at four key intersections:
-
Interchange 5 on Sheikh Zayed Road
-
Al Falak Street and Al Naseem Street
-
King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street and Al Naseem Street
-
Dubai Harbour Street connection
These upgrades aim to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at entry and exit points.
Construction Progress and Completion Timeline
Construction teams have completed 90% of utility relocation and adjustment works along the corridor.
Authorities have already introduced approved traffic diversions to keep vehicles moving smoothly during construction.
The RTA expects to complete the project in the third quarter of this year. Officials say the bridge supports Dubai’s long-term urban growth and aligns transport infrastructure with new coastal developments.
Supporting Dubai Harbour’s Rapid Growth
Dubai Harbour sits between Bluewaters Island and Palm Jumeirah, close to landmarks such as Burj Al Arab.
The district hosts the Middle East’s largest yacht marina and continues to grow as a mixed-use destination. It combines residential towers, retail spaces, leisure attractions and cruise facilities.
A separate development plan covers a 1.5-kilometre stretch of the area. It includes 24 residential towers and around 7,500 apartments.
Boosting Accessibility for Residents and Visitors
The new bridge will play a key role in managing traffic from new homes, marina users and tourists.
Shamal Holding says the direct connection to Sheikh Zayed Road will improve daily commuting and strengthen Dubai Harbour’s position as a fully integrated maritime destination.
By cutting travel time and improving access, the project aims to support both quality of life and long-term economic growth in one of Dubai’s most ambitious waterfront zones.
