Dubai has opened a new 1,000-metre bridge near the World Trade Centre Roundabout, easing congestion at one of the city’s busiest traffic hotspots. Officials say the project will significantly reduce travel time for thousands of daily commuters.

New Bridge Connects Major Roads in Dubai

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) designed the two-lane bridge to handle 3,000 vehicles per hour.

The bridge serves traffic moving from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, directing vehicles toward Al Karama and Deira.

As a result, drivers can now avoid long queues at the roundabout.

Travel Time Drops from Six Minutes to One

The RTA expects the project to cut journey time from six minutes to just one minute.

In addition, drivers will see delays at the intersection fall from 12 minutes to only 90 seconds.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General of the RTA, described the upgrade as a strategic move for Dubai’s road network.

The intersection connects Sheikh Zayed Road with five major corridors:

  • Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street

  • Sheikh Rashid Street

  • 2nd December Street

  • Zabeel Palace Street

  • Al Majlis Street

Two More Bridges to Open in October

The RTA continues work on two additional bridges.

These structures will serve traffic from Sheikh Rashid Street and Al Majlis Street toward 2nd December Street.

Officials plan to open both bridges in October. Once completed, the full project will further improve traffic flow across central Dubai.

Project Benefits Key Dubai Districts

The development supports major commercial and residential areas. It also improves access to the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

Drivers across the following districts will benefit:

  • Zabeel

  • Al Satwa

  • Al Karama

  • Al Jafiliya

  • Al Mankhool

Overall, more than half a million residents and visitors will benefit from the upgrade.
