As the iconic Dubai Metro marks its 15th year since its inaugural journey on September 9, 2009, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is rolling out a series of exciting initiatives to commemorate the milestone. The celebrations will not only entertain commuters but also reward a select group of individuals born on the same day as the Metro’s launch.
RTA Offers Educational Sponsorship for ‘Metro Babies’
The RTA has announced that UAE nationals who were born on September 9, 2009, and have maintained a cumulative GPA of over 90%, will be eligible for academic sponsorship to pursue higher education. These special individuals, affectionately known as ‘Metro babies,’ will have the opportunity to further their studies with the support of the RTA.
Legoland Dubai Hosts Celebration for Metro Babies
In addition to the educational sponsorship, the RTA has partnered with Legoland Dubai to host a celebration for all Metro babies born between 2009 and 2023. On September 21, 2024, these young individuals will have the chance to attend a special event at the theme park, marking their shared connection with the Dubai Metro.
Exclusive Merchandise and Discounts
As part of the 15th anniversary festivities, the RTA has prepared a range of exclusive merchandise and discounts for residents of the UAE. From September 21 to 27, passengers and visitors can enjoy live musical performances by Emirati and international artists at various Metro stations, creating a festive atmosphere. The RTA has also launched limited-edition Metro-shaped ice creams, with 5,000 lucky winners receiving a special code on the stick that entitles them to a discount Nol card. Additionally, the authority will issue special Nol cards designed by Lego Dubai, as well as limited-edition postage stamps and Metro-related souvenirs.
