Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced an increase in the maximum speed limit on parts of Al Amardi Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street, effective from September 30.

New Speed Limits

The updated speed limits will be as follows:

  • Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street: Maximum speed raised to 100 km/h between Dubai Al Ain Road and Academic City Roundabout.
  • Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street: Increased to 90 km/h between Academic City Roundabout and Al Khawaneej Street.
  • Al Amardi Street: Standardized to 90 km/h between Al Khawaneej Street and Emirates Road.
Coordination with Dubai Police

The RTA coordinated with Dubai Police General HQ to adjust and standardize the speed limits. Traffic signs and road markings will be updated to reflect these changes.

Enhancing Traffic Flow and Safety

This decision aims to improve traffic flow and enhance road safety on these two streets, which have recently undergone significant development. Both streets now feature increased lane numbers and improved intersections.

Ongoing Developments

Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street has seen several development projects, including an overpass at Dubai Al Ain Road. Completion of all overpasses is expected by 2030, facilitating the application of the new 100 km/h speed limit along the entire street.Additionally, Al Amardi Street has been expanded with new service roads, and the roundabout at Al Khawaneej Street has been transformed into a signal-controlled intersection, further improving traffic flow and safety.

Conclusion

These speed limit changes reflect Dubai’s commitment to maintaining high engineering standards in road design and speed management. The RTA continuously reviews speed limits on vital roads to ensure optimal safety for all road users in the emirate.
