Dubai is committed to excellence, aiming for 100% coverage of its main roads with smart technology as part of the Intelligent Traffic Systems project. This initiative will ensure a smoother ride for all commuters.
Dubai’s roads will be equipped with advanced sensors, cameras, and technology to provide real-time updates on journey times and road conditions.
Surveillance cameras will identify speeding motorists and instantly register incidents or crashes, alerting the relevant authorities. New Variable Message Signs (VMS) and smart applications will distribute traffic effectively, making journeys easier and more efficient.
In addition to improving response times in Dubai traffic, these sensors will notify the public of delays or congestion through smart apps or signage. Targeted in areas where traffic builds, drivers will be presented with alternative routes to reduce journey times.

Currently, 480 km of roads are covered with smart technology, which will expand to 710 km by 2026. Implementing the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the first phase of the project is now complete. This phase saw the installation of 100 new accident sensors and 17 weather sensing stations.
Managed from one of the world’s largest traffic centers in Al Barsha, the first phase has led to a 63% improvement in response times.
Additionally, traffic improvements are being made citywide to reduce congestion. A new free exit from Al Seba Street towards Qarn Al Sabkha Street in Dubai Marina is now available.
The Al Khail Road project aims to reduce journey times with new bridges in Zabeel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadeer Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle.
