Introduction of the High-Speed Train

Etihad Rail has announced the launch of the first high-speed, all-electric passenger train that will connect Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This groundbreaking service will reduce travel time between the two emirates to just 30 minutes, operating at speeds of up to 350 km/h.

Route and Stations

The high-speed train will pass through six key stations: Reem IslandSaadiyatYas IslandZayed International Airport, and near both Al Maktoum International Airport and the Al Jaddaf area in Dubai. This strategic route aims to enhance connectivity and ease road congestion.

Economic Impact

The introduction of this high-speed train is projected to contribute approximately Dh145 billion to the UAE’s GDP over the next fifty years. It represents a significant investment in the country’s infrastructure and aims to transform transportation in the region.

Regular Passenger Train Service

In addition to the high-speed option, a regular passenger train will also be introduced, traveling at speeds of 200 km/h. This service will connect all emirates, accommodating up to 400 passengers, and will eventually extend towards the UAE-Oman border, passing through scenic areas like Mezeira’a and the Liwa Desert.

Current Status and Future Plans

While the high-speed train is fully equipped, there is currently no confirmed timeline for its operational launch. Mohammed Al Shehhi, Chief Projects Officer at Etihad Rail, stated that infrastructure development will commence following the conclusion of tender processes.
