Navigating Refund Requests in the UAE: A Simple Guide

Requesting a refund for government services or fixing a payment mistake in the UAE is a straightforward process, thanks to the auto-refund services offered by various government entities. Whether you’ve overpaid for a service or made a duplicate payment, you can easily follow a few clear steps to get your money back.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mofa)

If you accidentally overpaid for document attestation services at Mofa, you can request a refund by following these steps:

  1. Visit the Mofa website (mofa.gov.ae) and click on ‘Services’.
  2. Fill out the application form, providing details of your request in the ‘Support Details’ box.
  3. Upload the required documents, which may include a payment receipt and a copy of the transaction.
  4. You will receive an SMS or email from the ministry informing you of the status of your request.
  5. Once approved, your refund will be credited to your bank account within five working days.
Ministry of Justice (MoJ)

If you made a mistake in payment while using MoJ services, such as passport renewal or official deed attestation, you can apply for a refund through the ministry’s refund portal (refund.adib.ae/app/moj/portal/login). After logging in or registering, click on ‘New Request’, enter your URN number, and provide your complete bank account details to initiate the refund process.

Ministry of Finance (MoF)

For refund requests related to the Ministry of Finance, you can submit an online application at mof.gov.ae. Click on ‘Fees Refund Request’, choose ‘Manage Dispute’, fill out the form, and attach the required documents. If approved, your refund will be credited to your bank account within five working days.

Ministry of Human Resources & Emiratisation (MOHRE)

Access the Auto-Refund service through MOHRE’s website, log in with your Emirates ID or UAE Pass, and submit a refund request through the system. Attach the required documents, and if approved, your refund will be credited to your bank account within five working days.

Emirates Health Services (EHS)

For refund requests related to medical treatment fees, residency visa medical fitness examinations, or pre-employment/pre-university fitness screening, visit the EHS website, choose ‘Services’, and click on ‘E-Refund System’. Log in or register, and provide the necessary documents based on the type of refund you’re requesting.

Dubai Municipality

Dubai residents can start their refund request for fines or fees through the Dubai Municipality website.
