Dh750 Million Project Promises Faster Travel and Less Congestion
The UAE has launched a major Dh750-million upgrade for Emirates Road, aiming to eliminate one of the country’s worst traffic bottlenecks. Motorists who travel between Sharjah and Dubai have welcomed the announcement with relief and optimism.
The project targets Intersection No. 7 in Sharjah, a critical connection point between the eastern, central, and northern cities and Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure will begin construction in September 2025, with plans to finish within two years.
Daily Drivers Celebrate the Upgrade
Tariq Al Suwaidi, a Sharjah resident who travels to Abu Dhabi every week, described the development as a “long-awaited blessing.”
“I rely on this route often,” he said. “This project will ease travel, reduce delays, and help thousands of commuters. I truly appreciate our leaders for responding to public needs.”
He highlighted the importance of the intersection:
“It links major regions across the country. Anyone coming from the north or east passes through here to reach Dubai or Abu Dhabi.”
Tariq believes the upgrade will save at least one hour during peak traffic, especially in the mornings and late afternoons.
Community Voices Support for Infrastructure Investment
Omar Hasan, who lives in Sharjah’s Al Zubair area, uses Emirates Road every day. He praised the project, saying, “This is the best route to reach both Dubai and the capital. Widening and upgrading it makes perfect sense.”
Omar added, “I hope the work meets high standards and causes minimal disruption. This step will improve quality of life for thousands.”
Officials and Citizens Alike Welcome the Project
Faisal Darwish, a member of the Sharjah Advisory Council, also applauded the move. “This upgrade didn’t come overnight,” he explained. “It follows years of demand and consistent efforts by both residents and our wise leadership.”
He thanked the government and its work teams for investing in public infrastructure and tracking these projects closely. “We’ve waited long, but now the change is coming,” Faisal said.
Meanwhile, Lina Khoury, another Sharjah resident, shared how this project will impact her family. “We use this road almost daily to get to Dubai. Less traffic means more time at home and less stress.”
Project Highlights: What’s Changing on Emirates Road?
The 25-kilometer project begins at Al Badi Intersection and stretches to Umm Al Quwain. Here’s what’s coming:
-
Road expansion: From 3 to 5 lanes in each direction
-
Six new bridges: Covering 12.6 km at Intersection No. 7
-
Increased capacity: Up to 9,000 vehicles per hour
-
Collector roads: 3.4 km of new service roads on both sides
-
New traffic lanes: 70 km of added lanes in total
Key Benefits for Motorists
The project aims to cut travel time by 45% and boost road capacity by 65%. These changes will reduce congestion, especially during rush hours, and improve road safety.
For many families, this means more than saving time—it offers peace of mind and a better daily routine.
