UAE Labour Disputes: Cases Involving Dh50,000 or Less to be Settled Without Court Proceedings

To report a labor-related dispute, employees can file a complaint at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) office. This can be done in person, online, or by calling the call center at 60056566. Once the complaint is received, the Ministry will review it and take necessary steps to find a solution. If an amicable solution cannot be reached, the dispute will either go to court if the value is more than Dh50,000, or be resolved by the Ministry if the value is less than Dh50,000.

For cases resolved by the Ministry, there is a writ of execution where the relevant party must attend court for the judgment to be annotated with execution. The Ministry’s judgment is final, but if an appeal is filed, the execution of the decision will be suspended.

If either party is unsatisfied with the decision, they can file a lawsuit before the Court of Appeals within 15 days to appeal. The court will schedule a hearing within three working days and make a judgment within 15 working days. The Court of Appeals’ decision will be final.

Employees have one year from the last day of communication with the employer regarding the dispute to file a case. During the dispute resolution process, the Ministry may order the employer to provide the worker’s wages for a maximum of two months if they are being withheld.
