The UAE has launched the first phase of its Blue Visa program, a -year residency permit designed for individuals making exceptional contributions to environmental protection and sustainability. Announced at the World Governments Summit , this initiative aims to attract global talent and support the UAE’s sustainability goals.

Who is Eligible for the Blue Visa?

The Blue Visa targets a range of environmental advocates and experts:

  • Members of international environmental organizations
  • Employees of international companies focused on sustainability
  • Members of environmental associations and NGOs
  • Winners of global environmental awards
  • Distinguished environmental activists and researchers

How to Apply for the Blue Visa

Interested individuals can apply for the Blue Visa through two channels:

  • Direct application to the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP)
  • Nomination by competent authorities within the UAE

The ICP will offer / access to the Blue Visa service via its website and mobile app, subject to terms and conditions. The electronic system’s first phase allows government agencies in the sustainability sectors to submit applications for electronic approval.

The Blue Visa extends the UAE’s existing Golden and Green Residencies, reinforcing its commitment to environmental leadership. According to Dr. Amna Bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, this initiative aligns with the UAE’s vision to attract leading environmental thinkers and innovators, leveraging their expertise to achieve national sustainability goals. Dr. Reza Khan, a wildlife expert, is among the first recipients.
