Self-driving taxis to start their services in Dubai streets next month

Dubai is set to launch fully-automated self-driving taxis next month, marking a significant step in autonomous transportation. The rollout will begin with five driverless taxis covering an 8-kilometer stretch of Jumeirah Road. These taxis, operated by US-based self-driving technology company Cruise, a subsidiary of General Motors (GM), will not initially carry passengers, but select individuals will be able to ride in them by the end of the year. Full commercial operations are planned for the second half of 2024. Dubai’s initiative makes it the first city to commercially operate Cruise self-driving vehicles outside the US.
