Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is transforming the city’s road network with 10 key infrastructure upgrades. These projects aim to reduce congestion, cut travel times, and increase road capacity—bringing lasting improvements for residents, visitors, and commuters across the emirate.

RTA is converting the iconic Trade Centre Roundabout into a signal-controlled surface intersection. The project includes five new bridges spanning 5,000 metres, drastically improving traffic flow between Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Mustaqbal Street, 2nd December Street, Al Majles Street, and Sheikh Rashid Street. Commuters heading to DWTC and DIFC will benefit significantly.

2. Al Mustaqbal Street Expansion

Travel Time Reduction: From 13 minutes to 6 minutes

RTA widened Al Mustaqbal Street to four lanes in each direction and built a 450-metre bridge along with three tunnels totaling 1,200 metres. This upgrade enhances connectivity for Dubai World Trade Centre, Za’abeel, Downtown Dubai, and Business Bay—impacting over 500,000 daily users.

3. Al Qudra Street Widening

Travel Time Reduction: From 9.4 minutes to 2.8 minutes
Capacity Increase: From 6,600 to 19,200 vehicles/hour

RTA expanded Al Qudra Street by 11.6 km, added 2,700 metres of bridges, and upgraded key intersections. This project benefits Arabian Ranches, Dubai Studio City, Al Qudra City, and Emirates Road—serving around 400,000 residents and commuters.

4. Al Fay Street Infrastructure Upgrade

Capacity Increase: Up to 64,400 vehicles/hour

Al Fay Street now features five major intersections, 13.5 km of bridges, and 12.9 km of newly developed roads. The enhancements improve connectivity to Dubai Sports City, Dubai Production City, Al Khawaneej, Sharjah, and Al Awir—benefiting approximately 600,000 people.

5. Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets Upgrade

Travel Time Reduction: From 20 minutes to 5 minutes
Oud Metha Capacity Increase: From 10,400 to 15,600 vehicles/hour

This upgrade includes four major intersections, 4.3 km of bridges, and 14 km of road development. The project eases traffic across Zabeel, Al Jaddaf, Oud Metha, Umm Hurair, and nearby landmarks like Latifa Hospital and Al Wasl Club.

6. Al Safa Street Modernization

Travel Time Reduction: From 12 minutes to 3 minutes
Capacity Increase: Up to 12,000 vehicles/hour

The Al Safa Street upgrade spans a 1.5 km corridor and includes two bridges, two tunnels, and improved intersections. The project also adds pedestrian and cycling facilities, enhancing access to tourism, culture, and sports zones.

7. Umm Suqeim Street Corridor Upgrade

Travel Time Reduction: From 9.7 minutes to 3.8 minutes
Capacity Increase: Up to 16,000 vehicles/hour

RTA completed 4.6 km of the planned 16 km corridor, connecting major roads such as Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, and Emirates Road. Over 1 million residents across nearby communities benefit from smoother, faster travel.

8. Al Wasl Road Expansion

Travel Time Reduction: By 50%
Capacity Increase: From 8,000 to 12,000 vehicles/hour

This 15 km corridor upgrade includes six revamped intersections, five tunnels, and wider lanes. Al Wasl Road now offers better connectivity between Umm Suqeim Street and 2nd December Street—vital for both residential and commercial traffic.

9. New Bridges Linking Dubai Islands to Bur Dubai

Capacity: Accommodates 16,000 vehicles/hour

A new 1,425-metre bridge over Dubai Creek connects Dubai Islands with Bur Dubai. With four lanes in each direction and a clearance of 18.5 metres, it also features pedestrian and cycling tracks—enhancing access to future developments on Dubai Islands.

10. Dubai–Al Ain Road to Nad Al Sheba Bridge

Travel Time Reduction: From 6 minutes to 1 minute
Capacity: 2,600 vehicles/hour

This new two-lane bridge connects Dubai–Al Ain Road to Nad Al Sheba residential areas. It improves daily commuting for around 30,000 residents—offering faster, safer access to major roads and surrounding neighborhoods.
