Month-Long Heritage Market in Deira

Dubai Municipality will launch its flagship Ramadan Market on January 17, running until February 15, at Old Municipality Street in Al Ras Market, Deira. The opening aligns with the Season of Wulfa, a cultural initiative that celebrates Emirati values, heritage, and community spirit.

Launched by Sheikh Hamdan to Celebrate Emirati Traditions

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, launched the Ramadan Market to strengthen family bonds and highlight Emirati cultural occasions. The initiative supports Dubai’s vision of tolerance, coexistence, and cultural respect while reinforcing the city’s global identity.

A Cultural Platform Supporting Dubai Urban Plan 2040

The Ramadan Market plays a key role in achieving the objectives of the Dubai Urban Plan 2040 by revitalising historic markets and enhancing quality of life. Set within a rich heritage environment, the market prepares residents and visitors for the Holy Month of Ramadan while showcasing authentic Emirati customs and traditions.

Traditional Ramadan Preparations Meet Modern Experiences

The market brings families and communities together through a mix of traditional Ramadan preparations, cultural activities, and entertainment. Dubai Municipality designed the event to preserve architectural identity, safeguard the memory of place, and transform heritage markets into vibrant lifestyle and tourism destinations.

Inclusive Market With Local Traders and Entrepreneurs

Traditional shop owners, traders, and entrepreneurs actively participate in the market, alongside People of Determination, ensuring accessibility, inclusivity, and equal opportunities. Organisers transformed Old Municipality Street into multiple activity zones with a cohesive design that blends contemporary elements with heritage character.

Food Zone, Live Performances, and Free Abra Rides

Visitors can enjoy a dedicated food zone featuring more than 10 restaurants, offering Emirati cuisine and popular international dishes. Additional food and beverage outlets operate across the market.

The programme includes:

  • Live cultural performances and Emirati folk arts
  • Free abra rides for visitors
  • Children’s workshops and recreational activities
  • Community competitions and Mid-Sha’ban celebrations

These elements create an immersive walk-through experience that reflects authentic traditions and Dubai’s vibrant cultural energy.

Heritage Zones and Family-Friendly Attractions

The market features a welcoming entrance on Old Municipality Street and a carefully planned layout that enhances visitor flow. Key zones include:

  • A heritage products market with live artisan demonstrations
  • A Ramadan-themed children’s area
  • An events square hosting cultural performances, Quran recitations, and visual storytelling from Dubai’s historical archives

Boosting Tourism and the Local Economy

Dubai Municipality organises the Ramadan Market as part of its broader cultural, tourism, and community events programme. The initiative supports economic growth, encourages investment, and increases footfall in Dubai’s heritage destinations.

Asem Al Qassim, Director of the Architectural Heritage and Antiquities Department at Dubai Municipality, said the market reflects the municipality’s commitment to preserving heritage and transforming historic markets into active cultural spaces. He emphasised the goal of enriching community participation through live performances, entertainment, and unique local products.
