Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has allocated a Dh332 million ($90.4 million) contract to enhance Umm Suqeim Street, a critical road connecting Al Khail Road (E44) to the intersection of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road (311). The project, spanning 4.6km, aims to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance capacity, and reduce travel time for the growing population in Dubai. Mattar Al Tayer, RTA’s director general, highlighted the potential for up to 16,000 vehicles to travel in both directions per hour, significantly cutting travel time between Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. The upgrade includes an 800-meter tunnel with four lanes in each direction at the Al Barsha South Street intersection, contributing to improved connectivity and traffic flow. The project is part of ongoing efforts by the RTA to enhance Dubai’s transportation infrastructure.

“This project aims to improve the connectivity of four major traffic corridors in Dubai: Sheikh Zayed Road; Al Khail Road; Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road; and Emirates Road,” said Mr Al Tayer.

“The project will serve various residential and developments areas, including Al Barsha South 1, 2, and 3, and Dubai Hills. These areas have an estimated population of about two million people.”

The completion date for the Umm Suqeim Street project has not been disclosed. However, this initiative represents the latest endeavor by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to enhance connectivity along this vital transport corridor, aligning with the city’s ongoing efforts to optimize its transportation infrastructure.
