Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened a new 600-metre bridge at the Al Qudra Road intersection, connecting Arabian Ranches with Dubai Studio City. The opening marks a major milestone in one of Dubai’s most important transport upgrades.

The new bridge boosts traffic capacity, eases congestion, and improves daily commutes for thousands of motorists.

191% Increase in Road Capacity

The eight-lane bridge, with four lanes in each direction, forms part of the wider Al Qudra Road Intersections Development Project. RTA designed the structure to improve traffic flow along Al Qudra Road and its connecting routes.

According to RTA, the bridge increases capacity from 6,600 vehicles per hour to 19,200 vehicles per hour, a 191% improvement. Waiting times at the junction dropped by 55%, reducing delays from 113 seconds to 52 seconds.

New Bridge to Open on February 15

RTA will open another 700-metre northern bridge on 15 February at the intersection of Al Qudra Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street.

The bridge provides two lanes in each direction and will remain operational until RTA completes works on the southern bridge. It will serve traffic heading towards Al Qudra City and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

Project Cuts Journey Time by 70%

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, said the project follows the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the supervision of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

He confirmed that the project will cut journey time by 70%, reducing travel time from 9.4 minutes to just 2.8 minutes. The development will serve areas that host nearly 400,000 residents and visitors.

11.6km of Road Upgrades and New Bridges

The Al Qudra Road Development Project includes:

  • Construction of 2.7km of bridges

  • Road widening and improvements across 11.6km

  • Upgrading multiple strategic intersections

These works support Dubai’s rapid urban expansion and rising traffic demand.

Strengthening Dubai’s East–West Road Network

Al Qudra Road plays a key role in Dubai’s east–west transport corridor. The project links Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road with Emirates Road, serving major communities such as:

  • Arabian Ranches 1 and 2

  • Dubai Motor City

  • Dubai Studio City

  • DAMAC Hills

  • Mudon

  • The Sustainable City

The upgrades improve traffic efficiency, reduce congestion, and enhance road safety.

Major Intersection Upgrades Underway

RTA is also upgrading the Al Qudra Road–Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street intersection. Works include:

  • A 700-metre bridge with four lanes in each direction

  • Auxiliary side ramps with two lanes each

  • A 500-metre bridge towards Jebel Ali

These additions allow uninterrupted traffic flow without disrupting the main carriageway.

900-Metre Bridge and New Service Roads

RTA is constructing a 900-metre bridge for traffic heading towards Dubai city centre and Dubai International Airport. The authority is also developing 3km of service roads on both sides of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street to improve access to nearby developments.

Once complete, the intersection upgrade will increase capacity from 7,800 to 19,400 vehicles per hour and cut waiting time by 85%.

Improved Access to Key Development Areas

The project also upgrades Al Qudra Road between Emirates Road and major residential zones such as Town Square Dubai, Mira, and DAMAC Hills 2.

RTA is widening lanes over a 3.4km stretch, building a new 4.8km southern road, and linking it directly to Emirates Road. These improvements will enhance connectivity and ease traffic across surrounding communities.
