On September 1, 2024, the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination announced the launch of digital parking permits for individuals with disabilities in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This new initiative allows users to carry their permits conveniently on their smartphones or devices, eliminating the need for paper permits.
Benefits of Digital Permits
The digital permits will link electronically to the existing system for those with active permits issued in either emirate. This enhancement makes travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai more accessible and flexible for people of determination. In Abu Dhabi, these individuals can park for free in paid parking spaces, while in Dubai, paid parking spaces will still incur charges.
Commitment to Quality of Life
Salama Al Reyami, head of networks and operations at the Zayed Higher Organisation, stated, “The project is considered a new step in improving the quality of life for people of determination.” She emphasized that this initiative represents a move towards sustainability and digital transformation to create a better future.
Additional Parking Benefits
In Sharjah, people of determination no longer need to display their ID cards behind their car windshields to access free parking. Since May, their ID cards have been automatically linked to the municipality’s public parking system. The application process for a free parking permit is straightforward, quick, and available online, ensuring easy access for those in need.
