UAE Private Sector Gets Paid Holiday for Hijri New Year 1446 AH

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) has declared July 7 as a paid holiday for private sector employees in the UAE, in celebration of Hijri New Year. Falling on a Sunday, this date marks the beginning of the new Hijri year 1446 AH on the Islamic calendar.

Similarly, Oman has also announced a holiday for both public and private sector employees on July 7, creating a long weekend for government employees and private sector companies following a 5-day work-week.

Looking ahead, UAE residents can anticipate a few more holidays this year, including one for the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday and National Day, offering the last official long weekend of the year. These holidays are part of the 2024 schedule released by the country’s Cabinet and are in addition to the annual 30 days of leave allotted to employees.
