The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has announced that working hours for private sector employees in the UAE will be reduced by two hours daily during Ramadan. This adjustment aims to accommodate the spiritual and physical needs of fasting employees.

Reduced Working Hours

  • Private Sector: Employees will work two hours less each day. Companies can implement flexible or remote work patterns based on the nature of their work, within the reduced daily hours.

  • Public Sector: Ministries and federal authorities will operate from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, and from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Fridays.

Flexibility in Work Arrangements

Companies are encouraged to apply flexible work patterns, allowing employees to work remotely if needed. This flexibility helps balance work requirements with the spiritual obligations of Ramadan.

Start of Ramadan

Ramadan 2025 is expected to begin on Saturday, March 1, according to astronomical predictions. The exact start date will be confirmed by the UAE’s moon-sighting committee closer to the time.

Importance of Reduced Hours

Reducing working hours during Ramadan supports employees in maintaining their health and spiritual practices during the fasting period. It also aligns with UAE’s efforts to promote a balanced work-life environment.
