Urgent Alert: Severe Storms Threaten UAE

The UAE is bracing for stormy weather from Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning, with heavy rains, lightning, thunder, and strong winds expected. Authorities urge caution as flooding may occur. This follows the loss of 13 lives in Oman due to similar weather conditions.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued an advisory for significant weather fluctuations. The Ministry of Interior assures preparedness and prioritizes safety, urging adherence to safety guidelines. Convective clouds will form, leading to rainfall, lightning, and thunder from Monday afternoon. Unstable weather will develop from Monday evening, affecting various regions until Wednesday morning, with potential hail in some areas.

Abu Dhabi Police urge safe driving during rainfall. Dubai Municipality advises securing electrical connections, cleaning rain gutters, and using designated drains. Sharjah City Municipality is also prepared, with teams and machinery on standby.

Residents are advised to take precautions, avoid flooded areas, and follow updates from the weather department.

The Dubai Municipality also urged residents to adhere to the following safety guidelines and measures to facilitate the expedited drainage of rainwater.

  • Secure electrical connections indoors
  • Clean internal rain gutters in the house or building
  • Use designated rainwater drains to drain rainwater collections
  • Avoid opening and using sewage drains to drain rain water
  • Fasten outdoor furniture securely and take flying materials inside the house or building
