During Ramadan, supermarkets across the UAE are offering significant discounts on thousands of products. This initiative aims to support consumers by providing essential items at affordable prices during the holy month.

Discounts and Offers

  • Major Retailers: Around 644 major outlets in the UAE have announced discounts of over 50% on more than 10,000 products. One co-op is offering discounts worth AED 35 million.

  • Lulu Hypermarket: Offers discounts of up to 65% on 5,500 products across its branches.

  • Another Co-op: Provides discounts of up to 60% on over 5,000 products.

Ensuring Price Stability

The Ministry of Economy is actively monitoring prices to prevent any unauthorized increases. They have identified key consumer outlets like Lulu, Carrefour, and Spinneys, which account for over 80% of consumer purchases. These outlets are linked electronically to flag any price changes, ensuring that prices remain stable throughout Ramadan.

Consumer Protection

Consumers are encouraged to report any price tampering or quality issues through the toll-free number 8001222 or via social media platforms. Last year, the ministry resolved 93% of consumer complaints promptly.

Preparations for Ramadan

To meet the increased demand during Ramadan, daily imports of food items have surged. For example, Al Aweer Fruits and Vegetables Market in Dubai receives 15,000 tonnes daily, while Abu Dhabi traders import 6,000 tonnes. This influx ensures a sufficient food supply during the holy month.
