Dubai’s Homegrown Produce Competition: Dh100,000 Prize

Dubai Municipality launched the ‘Dubai’s Best Homegrown Produce Competition’ to engage all society members. It encourages citizens and residents to cultivate fruits and vegetables in available spaces for self-sufficiency, income, and community quality of life improvement.

The competition promotes local agriculture for increased production and enhanced food security in Dubai. However, it is only open to residential areas and not apartments.

Prize money totaling Dh100,000 will be awarded to the top three winners. The first winner gets Dh50,000, the second Dh30,000, and the third Dh20,000. Dubai Municipal Leaders will present a medal for Dubai’s Best Homegrown Produce to the winning garden. Winners will be announced in May 2024.

Muhammad Abdul Rahman Al-Awadi, Director of the Agriculture Department at Dubai Municipality, stated, “Dubai Municipality focuses on supporting community practices to motivate citizens and residents to engage in sustainable local agriculture.”

This aligns with the goals of the National Food Security Strategy and Dubai Food Security Strategy, aiming to improve domestic production and reduce food loss and wastage, establishing Dubai as a leading destination combining aesthetic, environmental, and food sustainability.

To participate, individuals can register through the provided link on the Municipality’s website. They must fill out the form, providing personal data, place number, location of the planted area (courtyard or rooftop), details of cultivated items, irrigation methods, and a picture of the garden.

All owners (property or lease) with home gardens are eligible, while owners of farmlands, members of the Supreme or Technical Committee, or other subcommittees are not allowed to participate.
